A31 Westbound, westbound
Accident – The A31 westbound is closed between the junctions with the A348 and the A341, due to a serious accident. Road expected to re-open from 10:00 am.
In February 2012 the RAC received 4,780 calls from drivers who had run out of petrol. This was up from 3,900 calls one year earlier.

The A37 Fosse Way is closed at Lydford On Fosse from 19th March 2012 for up to 10 days.
This closure is to allow resurfacing at the traffic lights. Closure will be from 550 metres north west of the junction with Eastfield Lane to 70 metres south west of the junction with B3153 Castle Cary Road and B3153 Castle Cary Road from the junction with the A37 westwards for 75 metres and from the junction with the A37 eastwards for 85 metres a total distance of 2120 metres.
There are signed diversions, but journey times will increase to Bristol and all points north – especially at peak times.
The names of the Olympic Torch bearers as well as the roads and streets that the Olympic Flame will travel along in advance of the London 2012 Games are revealed today.
The London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay will start in Portland – the Olympic Sailing Venue on 13th July then visit Purbeck, Poole, Bournemouth and Christchurch on Friday, July 13 and Saturday, July 14.

WEYMOUTH will lose its ferry link for at least the summer after Condor Ferries confirmed that fast ferry sailings to the Channel Islands and France will be switched to Poole “until further notice.”
The company says feedback from Weymouth and Portland Borough Council indicates repair work to the berth has not been successful and remains out of use.
Passengers booked to travel with Condor Ferries via Weymouth will now be travelling via Poole throughout the summer.

Condor Ferries have released the following
‘Condor Ferries has confirmed today that sailings will be relocated from Weymouth to Poole, until 28 March while remedial work is carried out by Weymouth & Portland Borough Council on the berth at Weymouth Port.
Last week mutual concerns were raised by Condor Ferries and the Council regarding the structural integrity of part of the ferry berth in Weymouth Port.
Following an investigation by Weymouth & Portland Borough Council’s engineering team, plans are now in place for repair works to be carried out to the berth over the next four weeks. The engineers anticipate that these works will allow Condor Ferries to resume its services from Weymouth for the duration of the summer period.
Condor Ferries is continuing to contact passengers affected by the change of port and is ensuring that up-to-date information is available on its website www.condorferries.com.
Capt Fran Collins, Operations Director Condor Ferries, said:
“Condor Ferries is relocating sailings until 28 March to Poole, to minimise disruption to passengers and to offer as much advance notice as possible. Our customer services team are contacting all passengers to advise them of the change of port.
“The safety of our passengers and crew remains our highest priority, and we will be working closely with Weymouth & Portland Borough Council to monitor the repairs over the coming weeks.
“By continuing to operate regular services from Poole, while the work is carried out in Weymouth, we can continue to sustain our lifeline ferry services between the Channel Islands and the UK.”
Condor Ferries expects to resume operations from Weymouth for summer 2012, after this period assuming all safety concerns have been resolved satisfactorily.’

Top this for a speeding ticket…
Two British traffic patrol officers from North Berwick were involved in an unusual incident while checking for speeding motorists on the A1 Great North Road. One of the officers used a hand-held radar device to check the speed of a vehicle approaching over the crest of a hill, and was surprised when the speed was recorded at over 300 mph. Their radar suddenly stopped working and the officers were not able to reset it.
Just then a deafening roar over the treetops revealed that the radar had in fact latched on to a NATO Tornado fighter jet which was engaged in a low-flying exercise over the Border district, approaching from the North Sea.
Back at police headquarters the chief constable fired off a stiff complaint to the RAF Liaison office.
Back came the reply in true laconic RAF style:
‘Thank you for your message, which allows us to complete the file on this incident. You may be interested to know that the tactical computer in the Tornado had detected the presence of, and subsequently locked onto, your hostile radar equipment and automatically sent a jamming signal back to it. Furthermore, an air-to-ground missile aboard the fully-armed aircraft had also automatically locked onto your equipment. Fortunately the pilot flying the Tornado recognized the situation for what it was, quickly responded to the missile systems alert status, and was able to override the automated defence system before the missile was launched and your hostile radar installation was destroyed.
True or not its a good story!
From Thursday 2 February 2012, the next main phase will begin and will involve carriageway works, diversion of the drainage systems and modifying the level of the existing roundabout carriageway to enable the new dual carriageway section through the centre of the junction to be constructed.
These closures will be phased and have been carefully planned to keep disruption to a minimum. Contractors will be working continuously from 7.30am on Mondays (day and night) until 5.30pm on Saturdays. On Sundays work will take place from 7.30am to 5.30pm. So if you are held up during these hours and nobody is working feel free to contact the main contractor!!!
When are the closures happening?
These closures are weather dependant.
The clousures mean that access to Bournemouth Airport will be disrupted from the A31 – alternative routes will be signed. Extra travel time should be allowed when passing through the works.
Upcoming Road Closures
The planned programme of carriageway closures is as follows:-
All overnight closures will be in place between 8.30pm and 6am (Monday to Thursday nights) and between 11pm and 6am (Friday night).
